Abbas and Israel: never sign a contract with a liar

The 'Palestinian' approach to peace with Israel is unique in one important regard. It's never trustworthy.

The reason for this is simple. The man who would sign a peace 'contract' with Israel--Palestinian Authority (PA) leader, Mahmoud Abbas--is a liar.

Look at what happened a couple of weeks ago. In late June, 2018, Abbas met with a visiting royal guest, Prince William of Britain. When the two men met, Abbas said he was serious about peace (israelnationalnews). He also told Prince William, he (Abbas) was committed to fighting terror (albawaba).

Both of those statements were not just lies. They were bald-faced lies.

First, even before Abbas met with Prince William, he was so supposedly 'serious' about peace with Israel that he had already rejected a proposed Trump peace plan--without knowing anything about it (business standard). How's that for 'serious about peace'?

Abbas was 'so serious' to make peace with Israel that his friends in the PLO had already boasted about that as-yet-unpublicized peace plan. But they hadn't boasted about how eager they were to sign it. Instead, they'd boasted that they had "successfully blocked a long-awaited Middle East peace deal floated by President Donald Trump’s administration" (PLO: we foiled Trump's Mideast peace plan).

Abbas didn't tell Prince William the truth about peace with Israel. He'd lied. Even before Prince William had traveled to Ramallah, Abbas had been chortling over how he'd killed a peace plan before it had even been made public--that is, he'd rejected the peace plan before he'd even seen it.

Nice way to pursue peace, eh?

That's not how a leader shows a seriousness about peace. It's an example of how a leader is serious about killing peace.

Can you imagine what the world would be saying if Israel had pulled this stunt?

Then, there's Abbas' statement to Prince William that he was committed to fighting terror. Abbas didn't just silently nod his assent to such a commitment. He'd been explicit  about it.  He'd said he was committed to fighting terror locally, regionally and internationally (albawaba, ibid). But that wasn't true, either.

If Abbas were truly committed to stopping terror, he'd stop paying Palestinians to kill Jews in terror attacks. But he makes such payments--and he won't stop paying (Palestinian Authority: we'll continue to pay prisoners and their families).

This is no small deal. The Palestinian  Authority (PA) pays out app 100 million Shekel every month to those who have killed Jews (ibid). This is the infamous pay-to-slay program, where a Palestinian can earn for himself or his survivors (should he die during his attack) far more than he could earn working in a normal employment situation in the PA.

To earn a guaranteed upscale wage, a PA resident doesn't have to go to college. He doesn't have to pass any tests. He doesn't have to show any talent for anything. He doesn't even have to finish high school.

All he has to do is pick a kitchen knife, find a Jew and attack.

This is a terrorist-incentive program, not a peace-making program. For a government always short of cash, it costs the PA a lot of money. Yet, chronically poor, the PA determines that this100 million/month is essential (Dalit Halevi).

This pay-to-slay program is not an example of how to fight terrorism. It's an example of how to encourage terrorism.

Abbas lied to Prince William.

Mahmoud Abbas isn't serious about peace with Israel. He's serious about killing peace with Israel. He isn't committed to stopping terror against Jews. He's committed to continuing terror against Jews. He's so commiitted to killing Jews, he's willing to pay 100 million Shekel a month to do it.

You think Israel should sign a peace agreement with a liar like this? Israel can't, partly because of something someone in your family or your neighborhood probably once taught you--or should have taught you: never sign a contract with a liar.
